Our Story
While it can be said that many successful interactive advertising agencies have one form of rags-to-riches story associated with them, Apollo Interactive is one of the few to build a successful digital advertising agency from virtually nothing. Starting with only $1,200 in a small studio apartment near the University of Southern California, founders Justin Woo, David Bohline, and Richard Balue built their first web server in October 1995 and began exploring the -new- economy. They worked hard developing their skills in web design, programming, and online marketing while building a business model that would fit this brand new industry.
Hard work paid off when they signed their first high profile clients, the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino and rap star Ice Cube. Apollo's next milestone was teaming with Margo Chase in 1997 to design a web site for "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," a new teen show on a then new network. The success of the site led to a seven year run as interactive agency for The WB Television Network. In 1998 and 1999 Apollo added Jack in the Box and the Mandalay Resort Group to its growing portfolio. The notoriety and success of these clients allowed Apollo to recruit a number of talented web designers, online marketers, experienced programmers and project managers. With a larger agency team, a more diverse client base, and continued success, Apollo moved to a 4,000 square-foot studio to finish up 1999 and then landed in their current 17,000 square-foot Culver City studio in 2001. In 2003 Apollo opened a Dallas office without any Texas clients. But in under a year was up and running with a growing roster that included Curves, Chuck E. Cheese's and United Supermarkets.
Thirteen years later, Apollo Interactive has grown from a three-man shop to become one of the largest interactive advertising agencies in the country, and one of the best-kept secrets in the industry. Since inception, Apollo has remained independent, debt-free, and has never accepted outside financing. Apollo is still run by its three original founders and a dedicated group of long-term senior management.
